Choking on acrid black smoke is no way to die and that’s why Smoke Curtains should be fitted inside buildings. Your company might think it has suitable fire protection at the moment but adding Smoke Curtains will strengthen the defences more.
If smoke is detected by the barriers they will lower into position to contain the smoke in specific areas. The tight seal on the curtains prevents smoke from seeping around the edges and they will hold back not only smoke but fire as well.
Up to two hours can pass before the Smoke Curtains will start to wear and in this time everyone should have already escaped.
The installation process for the Smoke Curtains is relatively simple and once ordered they can be on site in less than 5 days. Smoke curtains come made to measure, which means that you’ll get a curtain that fits perfectly thus ensuring it can work with maximum efficiency.
Smoke curtains can be supplied with or without guides as their purpose is to route smoke out of a building and not hold back a fire. A fire will cause either positive or negative pressures, which cause the curtain to act like a sail which is why side guides and a fabric retaining system are a requirement for fire curtains.
With Smoke Curtains in position the smoke can be help back so that people can evacuate a building without too much trouble.
Our new smoke curtain technologies are especially suited to clean hygienic environments such as:
But are equally suited to more general commercial or even domestic use:
- Shopping Centres
All of our units are driven from battery operated motors so they will operate even in the event of loss of mains power.
As an option we can supply gravity fail safe motors which will release the smoke curtains to fall under gravity should there be a problem with the motor cabling becoming corrupt or damaged.
Our units offer a range of option relating to how they operate.
Two alarm inputs are available to initiate closing. These inputs can be from your local fire alarm panel, smoke detectors or indeed any other volt free contact.
When an alarm input is set, you then have a number of options in terms of how it closes.
1. The curtain simply starts to close, with any local warning systems initiated.
2. Alternatively you can configure the curtain to wait for a given time period before it begins to close.
3. Or you can configure the fire curtain to complete a partial close and then wait for a period of time before closing completely, giving personnel a chance to evacuate the area.
An alarm output is also available to drive local alarm equipment such as voice warning systems, beacons and sirens. This can be set to indicate an alarm state or a problem with the charger, batteries or external power supply.
Additional features include the facility to configure the smoke curtain to close automatically should the battery voltage become critical or the charging current to be lost for more than 24 hours. Ensuring you are aware of potential failures before they become a problem.
Manual operation of the smoke curtain (Open / Close / Stop) can be initiated via key switch, pushbutton group or remote radio controls. Manual control can also be configured to run only when the button is being pressed or to latch in place, i.e. a single press will cause a close to continue until the close limit is met.
Our insulated smoke curtains are certified by Warrington FRC or Chiltern International Fire to a variety of standards including:
