Widely acknowledged as a market leader for both the manufacture and installation of engineered fire curtains, K & D has now introduced the new Twin Skin automatic fire curtains creating new boundaries in building design for fire insulated zone requirements & means of escape.

The effects of fire can be devastating if they aren’t controlled in time. Buildings that don`t have sturdy defences against such acts of nature will be left completely exposed should a fire break out.
Fire Curtains can prove to be life savers, so it`s surprising that more companies don`t have them installed in their open areas.
Foyers and the like could have the Fire Curtains installed and should a fire break out, the curtains will lower into position without haste. Once in place up to two hours of premium protection can be provided by the curtains. This should be more than enough time for the fire to be controlled and the staff members given the chance to escape.
Installation of the Fire Curtains is a relatively simple process and the curtains come in made to measure sizes. This means that you`ll get a curtain that fits perfectly thus ensuring it can work with maximum efficiency.
As a fire will generate either positive or negative pressure on one side of the curtain, the curtain will begin to bellow like a sail. This is why all of our fire curtains are supplied with side guides and a fabric retaining system to ensure they remain in place and continue to do their job as the fire rages on.
While fire curtains will act as a partial barrier to smoke, we can as an option install smoke seals to the curtain guides and so provide a more effective barrier to the flow of smoke.
The effects of smoke and fire can be devastating but if you have Fire Curtains fitted inside your building you`ll be providing protection against such frightening consequences.
Our new fire curtain technologies are especially suited to clean hygienic environments such as:
- Commercial and Industrial Kitchens
But are equally suited to more general commercial or even domestic use:
- Shopping Centres
All of our units are driven from battery operated motors so they will operate even in the event of loss of mains power.
As an option we can supply gravity fail safe motors which will release the smoke curtains to fall under gravity should there be a problem with the motor cabling becoming corrupt or damaged.
Our units offer a range of option relating to how they operate.
Two alarm inputs are available to initiate closing. These inputs can be from your local fire alarm panel, smoke detectors or indeed any other volt free contact.
When an alarm input is set, you then have a number of options in terms of how it closes.
- The curtain simply starts to close, with any local warning systems initiated.
- Alternatively you can configure the curtain to wait for a given time period before it begins to close.
3. Or you can configure the fire curtain to complete a partial close and then wait for a period of time before closing completely, giving personnel a chance to evacuate the area.
An alarm output is also available to drive local alarm equipment such as voice warning systems, beacons and sirens. This can be set to indicate an alarm state or a problem with the charger, batteries or external power supply.
Additional features include the facility to configure the fire curtain to close automatically should the battery voltage become critical or the charging current to be lost for more than 24 hours. Ensuring you are aware of potential failures before they become a problem.
Manual operation of the fire curtain (Open / Close / Stop) can be initiated via key switch, pushbutton group or remote radio controls. Manual control can also be configured to run only when the button is being pressed or to latch in place, i.e. a single press will cause a close to continue until the close limit is met.
Fully Certified Fire Curtains
Our uninsulated fire curtains are certified by Warrington FRC or Chiltern International Fire to a variety of standards.
Don’t be fooled by other fire and smoke curtain manufacturers, always ask to see a copy of the test certificate for the fire or smoke curtain you are buying as lives could be at risk.
